We're doing well today...

Despite the VERY windy weather!! Promising to have a thunderstorm tonight as it's quite humid and there's a system rolling through.

Enough weather talk!! LOL Landon and I are doing well. He slept very well last night - this moving him to his own bed in his own room is wonderful!! I got 4.5 hours of uninterrupted sleep - I feel I could take on the world :-P Plus I got another 3 hour block, and an additional 2 hour block, so lots of sleep for mommy last night!! When he woke to eat I pulled him into bed with me, where he stayed the rest of the morning since John is gone fishing. When I can put Landon away from me, he sleeps quite fine in bed with me. But if he's anywhere close to me he thinks he needs to be nursing, the little stinker. So when John gets back he'll have to go back to his own bed after eating so that we can all get better sleep.

We started giving Landon cereals twice a day now, as he's an eating machine. I couldn't believe how much cereal he ate last night, so I thought I could introduce another feeding during the day. He's eating like a trooper now that he's feeling a bit better!! Making it easier for the milk-producer too, as I can actually satisfy him now :-) Maybe on Saturday we'll introduce another cereal, see how he likes barley ... heh heh (if he's anything like his mom's family, he should like barley ALOT!! Right Grandpa!!?!??!)

So that's the news from here today ... not much of it, but that's okay. John will be back tomorrow afternoon, hopefully with lots of fish! I can finally shower again (couldn't get the glue-stitches wet for 48 hours), so I should smell pertier :-P And we're supposed to get some nice hot weather over the next couple of weeks, so hopefully we can use Landon's kiddie pool a bit more before fall sets in for good :-)

Hope you're all well....take care and chat soon...TK

If you thought it was big before...

My nose is a bit bigger these days ... heh heh!! I just hope it doesn't end up to be too crooked after this is all done! Yup - I broke it on Monday night, playing ball. As embarassing as it is, I was batting - hit a foul tip into my face. I did this to MYSELF!! Can you believe it? (for all of you who just chuckled and said, "Oh yeah, I can believe" ... piss on you!! LOL)
So this is day two (taken this morning). The bruising keeps spreading, I hope it's as far as it will go now. There still isn't much pain, but I'm worried about infection on my nose (as you can see the bright red around the lower set of stitches). If that doesn't go away I will go to a walk-in, but antibiotics aren't a friendly option for breastfeeding moms ... so hopefully it will not be infected!
Thankfully those aren't the old stitches of yore -- nowadays they actually can glue your wound. So my nose was glued to what would've been the equivalent of 3 stitches, 2 on the top wound, 1 on the bottom. It luckily doesn't hurt, I don't know if that's yet to come (maybe I'm still numb), or if I'm just lucky that way.

On to cuter stuff: Landon is doing better. We had our follow-up appt with the dr yesterday. The blood tests from last week were fine, and his liver and spleen have shrunk a bit (still not normal size, but close). They took some more blood yesterday to test for mono, we go back in 2 weeks for the results. Hopefully he's fully recovered from whatever this is by then :-)

That's about it from here for now. Will post again shortly to let you know how Landon's doing. Take care...TK

A week of FIRSTS

This was definitely a week of firsts! After a week of being held in Montreal (due to limited availability of toys), Landon showed us on Tuesday that he can sit up all by himself now to play. And he was very excited about it, as you can see. It's finally time to retire some of those first toys he used (the gymini for one), as he's moving on to toys he can play with while sitting up now. We've introduced him to his keyboard and drums, and his stack-the-rings toy (I'm sure you'll know what I mean when you see a picture of this one someday). He still needs pillows around him as he falls over a lot, but he sure is enjoying sitting up and seeing the world from a different view.

And we've started him on cereals ... albeit slowly. Since he's had his cold he's not as interested as he was on the first day (this picture is from his first cereal on Tuesday). But we're giving him little bits every day and once he's over this cold I'm sure he'll dig right in. He gets frustrated when eating anything these days because his nose is so plugged up. But there must be some cereal getting in there, he ate a bit today, and then had a 2.5 hour nap!!

On Tuesday the 15, we walked up to Beaver Lake on Mount Royal. There were goldfish and ducks to look at, and Landon enjoyed it very much (as you can see, he wasn't even interested in the camera at all!!). It was a beautiful day for a walk, and that was a long one. After 4 hours of walking / strolling about, Landon had a good 3 hour nap as soon as we got back to Robs!! Who could blame him, with all of that activity to look at!

John's friend Chris invited us over for a beautiful Indian dinner which we thoroughly enjoyed (and we're happy to report no adverse reactions to the spicy food from Landon). Landon spent some time sitting on John's shoulders while we were visiting with everyone after dinner.

My giraffe, my constant companion

Landon absolutely loves to play with and chew on this giraffe ... and he did so all week in Montreal. Whether he was hanging out on the couch cushions at Robs, or on the plane on the way home. I think he's starting to kind of look like the giraffe in these pictures...maybe? Heh heh

Meeting Christophe and Jonathan

We visited with Marc & Melanie and their two boys, Jonathan and Christophe, while in Montreal. Christophe and Landon are only 1 day apart ... I think they may be trouble-makers in a year or two, but during this visit they were simply curious about one another :-)

Pictures ... finally!

Landon very much enjoyed meeting and showing off for Granddad and Grandma!! He studied Granddad pretty closely, and jumped away providing entertainment for all of us!! It was definitely the highlight of the trip to see Granddad and Grandma

Still feeling sick...

yes, Landon is still sick, but we think he's getting better. If he wasn't so stuffed up I'm sure he'd feel fine. Last night he slept from 9 pm until 11 am -> not straight through mind you, he was up several times to snack and twice to eat, but still! That's a long time full of mostly sleeping!!! And he napped all right today as well ... He's just getting a bath now and then (hopefully) we'll be off to bed for the night again. We'll see...
We tried to give him cereals yesterday and today, but he's not that interested. I think it's because he's just not feeling well, so we haven't pushed it at all. As he gets better I think he'll take more cereal. I'm looking forward to that as I hope that it will help him feel more satisfied in the evenings and hopefully he'll go to bed 'better'.

Everything else is fine with us. Going to do some work on the house ... replace kitchen flooring and countertops, and I'm planning to paint our bedroom and some other stuff. Planning to put our house up for sale in a few weeks so we need to get everything ready. If we can find the energy that is! aiaiaiaiaiai

That's the news from here. Hope all is well with all of you. Pics are still on their way -- I promise I'll post some soon... Take care...TK

Landons Dr Appt

Well, Landon hasn't completely kicked the fever yet, but we've been able to keep it down throughout the day. The dr took some blood tests as he has a "generous spleen and liver" ... whatever that could mean. We go back to the dr on Tuesday afternoon for a follow-up on that issue ... I sure hope everything comes back normal. I don't know why his spleen and liver would be enlarged, I'm almost scared to contemplate on that one! He's pretty miserable, but has been napping well. We will give him some Motrin in a while and hopefully we'll all be able to get some sleep tonight. I find Motrin works the best to keep the fever down and help him to sleep overnight.

Ball -> we lost the a-side final tonight, but we can still move through the b-side to come back and play for the championship. We play Monday and Tuesday of next week.

Other news -> not much. We're looking forward to a visit from Kirby tomorrow afternoon.

Anywho ... I'll post tomorrow on Landon's state of health. TK

and we have a cold...

Parenthood is a never-ending string of fastballs I think. Landon's cold has fully developed now, waking up this morning with a 103.9 fever!! We got the fever down within about 45 minutes with a bath, some Motrin and feeding him, but still ... that's high!! So we're off to see the doctor this afternoon at 2 pm ... the doctor definitely makes time to see you when a fever gets that high! He's not doing too badly ... he's maybe not his usual quiet happy self, but he's not too crazy either. Just doing a lot of moaning and whining! But we are getting used to it, so we are just spoiling him :-)

I will let you know how the dr appt goes.....

On the good news front: we won our ball game last night ... the series is now tied 1-1, with the third game to be played tonight. Think good things, this is the a-side final!!

Talk soon...TK

More milestones...

Landon decided today that he can sit up, for quite awhile too!! We have pillows all around him, but he's just a-sitting there, playing with his toes and stuff. Very cute, the little monkey!!
He isn't feeling too well though, so we've put the cereals 'on hold' for a couple of days in case that's the reason. Most likely he has simply caught a cold from our travels to Montreal. Lots of people, lots of kids, in only a few days ... so it's quite likely that he's got a cold now. No fever, just runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing and a slight cough. He didn't sleep well because of his stuffy nose last night, so I'm hoping it doesn't get worse. It's certainly not as bad as last months cold, if it doesn't get worse that is....

So we'll try more cereal on Saturday morning. Makes it tough because he is so ready to eat more, I just can't fill him up -> especially at night. But we'll tough it out only a few more nights and then hopefully the cold will be gone, the tummy will get fuller and we'll all get more sleep (until the teeth start coming in that is...).

That's all from here...pics will hopefully come soon!! TK

Milestones, Milestones ... everywhere is Milestones!

Big day today -- Landon ate cereal this morning for the first time. He liked it pretty well, eating over a tablespoon of the 'thick water' as it were :-/ We will continue to give him cereal in the morning, and will introduce a 'dinner' meal as well later this week. He hasn't seemed to react negatively yet, so we'll see. Hopefully this will help him be more satisfied the rest of the day, as he's been an eating machine the past few weeks and I just can't seem to fill him up. We went out and bought the highchair today too - at Toys R Us. It was hard not to spend $2 billion in there on 'stuff' ... aiaiai. But we got a high chair and only a few other things ;-)

And....[drumroll please] -> after weeks of 'trying', Landon rolled from his tummy to his back tonight!! YAY!! I think he was just so happy to be somewhere to get some 'floor time' ... heh heh The past week in Montreal he spent mostly in someone's arms (usually mine). But dad played on the floor with him tonight and he rolled over! Very exciting day!

I've uploaded pics from our trip, but have to go through them yet. Will post some from our trip, as well as the 'first cereal' pics too!! Hope you're all well ... take care and chat soon! Tamara, John & Landon

We're home again...

Just a quick note -- we are home, safe and sound. I am very glad to be home, and I think Landon is too. He promptly had a nice 3 hour nap when we got home :-P Poor tired guy! I can sympathize, it was a busy week in Montreal. But we got to see everyone, meeting Granddad and Grandma was very fun!! And we saw lots of Johns friends too at various backyard B-B-Q's and such. It was wonderful! I will post more in the next day or so, and add some pics too. Hi to everyone ... Take care!! TK

Travel Plans...

We have some travel plans made ... it's been awhile in the making :-) We are headed to Montreal on Sunday -> Landon's first plane ride!! Let's hope all goes well ... I really don't want to be that couple on the plane totally mortified because their baby won't stop screaming! I remember watching families with small babies get on planes with trepidation, praying that their seat wasn't near mine ... I hope that karma doesn't bite us in the butt and give us that screaming kid now!! We shall see.
We are there from Sunday until the following Monday, with lots of visiting planned!! Should be fun, and tiring too I guess! LOL We will be putting Landon back into the hammock for naps and night-time ... he took to the hammock very well last night -> sleeping for four hours in there before waking up for a snack!! And he napped in there again tonight, so there shouldn't be an issue there. I'm just hoping we can borrow an exersaucer or something from someone there, or we'll go bonkers being his exerciser all week :-P
On another front: ball play-offs are going well. We won our first and second series, and have moved to the A-side final which will begin the 21st.
And ... we went out to visit Pam Hilton in their new house in Niverville today --- VERY NICE!! It sure is a beautiful new home! Landon enjoyed most of his time out there, too ... was only a little bit cranky when we left but who can blame him. He had a nice nap on the way back to Winnipeg ... he was asleep within 2 miles on Niverville!

That's the scoop from here. We haven't made any plans to travel back to Sk yet ... but hopefully soon. We'll be sure to let everyone know. Alot depends on how these first flights go!! Any advice out there...let me know!

Take care everyone!! Tamara, John and Landon

It's a good day...

It's a good day so far! Landon slept so well last night -- 8 hours straight!! It was from 3 am until 11 am, but what do I care, he slept straight through!! He actually went to sleep about 20 after 1, but woke up and ate shortly after 2. By 3 he was sound asleep again and we didn't hear from him until 11:00, when he was understandably hungry! Very nice, very nice. I hope to have a few more nights like that!
And of course today he is just a cute little munchkin, having had lots of sleep! He's down for a nap in his crib, which is always nice. I love the days when he and I have both had enough sleep, because I'm in the mood to enjoy him, and he's in such a good mood it's wonderful to get to play with him!

Other good news: we won both of our ball games last night! We're in play-offs, so winning the first game meant we stay on the a-side, and the second game was the first win of our second series (best 2 of 3). We play again tomorrow night. You can still track our action at www.softballleagueofwinnipeg.com We are Bad Habit -- division 1. Our play-off info is in the play-off sections.

That's the scoop from here today. It's pretty warm again, and likely will be all week. aiaiai But we've got Landon's pool filled in the backyard so I think we'll have a swim today. Hope everyone's doing well...take care. TK

Sitting up...?!?!?

He's starting to sit up better, last night he was sitting with dad holding only his knees. He fell over onto the pillow lots too (and then he'd laugh), but he's getting closer.
He's starting to 'walk' when he holds on to our fingers too. Right now his favourite is to walk up dad's belly and chest, and it's a treat if he can step on dad's face! LOL He isn't interested in showing off his walking skills for the camera though, he's so busy trying to look at the camera that he doesn't walk! Little stinker.
But it sure is fun to watch him. He's getting so much stronger every day. I'm not convinced he'll ever crawl as he still doesn't like tummy time. I'm worried that he'll just get up and start walking somewhere around the 7 month mark! aiaiaiaiai

Somebody Stop Me!!

I think I've held out long enough, so today Landon and I went to Toys'R'Us. aiaiaiaiai...I sure could spend a fortune in that store! I restrained myself pretty well I think...sort of. LOL Actually, bought some bibs and spoons for the soon-to-be cereal feeding; checked out some high chairs and pack'n'plays but didn't buy any; and bought a tub toy and a crib lights/song thingy-mahooey --> in the hopes that he will watch that thing and get all relaxed and dreamy and fall asleep, we'll see if it works! We bought a bath seat too, we'll see if he likes that or if he prefers to simply lay in the tub still!
I am hoping that we aren't getting sick again. My throat is kind of bothering me, and I noticed Landon was a bit stuffed up last night :-/ Let's hope that he doesn't get another cold, that would be awful! We'll be keeping a close eye on him in any case.

He's still as cute as can be...laughing more and more often now. Gotta love that! And he's napping in his crib very well. So life is pretty good! We're looking forward to the long weekend - if the weather's nice we might head out to Grand Beach for a day...we'll see how nice it is. I don't think it's supposed to be the 30+ weather that we've been having, so that's nice.

Better run, see what the boys are up to! Until next time...take care...TK

We've reached the 16 pound mark!

I took Landon to be weighed today ... we've finally reached the 16 pound mark! He's officially doubled his birth weight, as he's 16 pounds, 1.8 ounces (was 8 pounds, 0.6 ounces at birth).
And...another first: John and I went out for lunch together today and it wasn't even a disaster! Landon was very good - he was awake the whole time, but he just watched some kids playing at the table beside us, and played with his blanket, and stared at the chair, and smiled and kicked and stuff. Maybe we'll have to go out for lunch more often ... ? Heh heh
I was at the dentist this morning, got a filling. I was worried I might need a crown, but a filling was all it was. Now the freezing is mostly out, thankfully.

That's the scoop from here today! Hope all is well where you are! Take care and chat soon...Tamara, John & Landon
