We are enjoying some nice weather, despite the wind :-/ The boys are loving playing outside, and I'm happy that the backyard is getting more "playable". The sandbox is wide open now, so hopefully it'll dry out soon (the boys are playing in it anyway!).
Arlan continues to talk more and more. He's starting to say sentences, like "Landon sit now" and things like that. He definitely knows what he wants, and when he doesn't get it he shares his feelings. Usually by crying / screaming in your face. It's annoying, but mostly funny (unless you have a head ache or are on the phone ... not fun for people on the other end of the phone either!). The boys mostly fight all day, with brief periods of peaceful playing which I love. But they're fun.
Landon seems to be enjoying preschool more. He actually asked to go to preschool Monday morning, but he only goes Tues and Thurs mornings. And of course, now he doesn't have preschool until Apr 13!! Easter break. But at least he's enjoying it more.
Oh yeah, Landon's spring concert was at preschool last Thursday. I enjoyed it (Arlan loved playing with the toys there). Landon didn't squeak a single word, or participate in any way. He just sat there quite shy. But he didn't cry, so I was happy about that. Maybe next concert he'll find his voice.
Landon is getting better at controlling his strong emotions too. The other night he was so mad at John because John told him to quit hitting the window. He picked up the pillow, and you could see in every fibre of his body just how badly he wanted to throw that pillow at John. We just watched him with that "go ahead and try it" look in our eyes. He marched over to John with the pillow poised over his head, and put it on John's legs and stamped away. Much better - very impressive self-control I think. So it's an improvement. In fact, he's much less aggressive in many ways. I'm definitely seeing a pattern - Feb / Mar is an aggressive time for Landon, and I'm thinking maybe due to it being the end of winter and he's sick of being inside? But I distinctly recall us having some challenges right when he turned 2, then 3, and now at 4. So perhaps we'll be able to better manage that at 5? We'll see
Anyway, I'd better go, just thought I should put a note up. Until next time...

Oh aiaiaiaiai
Poor Landon - he has been in bed, so sleepy, since 7 pm. But he can't fall asleep because he has that annoying, dry, hacking cough. Poor kid! We gave him Triaminic at 7 to clear his stuffiness which I hoped would help alleviate the cough, but obviously it didn't :-( So I thought I'd try my kids Buckley's...here's where my rant begins:
I don't want to give my kids two different meds unless I KNOW that they don't contain the same medicinal ingredients. Only sensible, right? Well, the names of the ingredients weren't the same, but I wanted to speak to someone to be sure. Here's my 1st mistake. So I call Health Link (otherwise known as "we will only repeat what you can easily read on your product label; we provide no additional knowledge or help"). And I made my second mistake - I told them Landon's true age. They won't even speak about the products (or ingredients) because Health Canada recommends against giving kids under 6 cough and cold meds. So she reviews the non-med things I can do (which I've already done, this isn't his first cold with a cough), and gives me another number to call.
So I call it, and being a slow learner, I again provide Landon's real age. This dude goes off on me, making me feel like a drug-addicted slut of a mother -- how could I possibly even consider giving my 'under-6' kid cough meds? Well, because he's not going to fall asleep otherwise, he's been hacking for well over 3 hours already (which gets me to thinking that if I can repeat the Triaminic dose in 4 hours, then I can give him the Buckley's at 4 hours without worry about double-dosing ... blah blah blah). BUT I stay on the line with this dude, who asks me what non-drug stuff I've done, which I tell him. He proceeds to question it ("Where in the room did you place the humidifier?" "On the floor" ... it deteriorates...).
The real kicker -- this dude recommends against the cough meds (which I anticipated), and suggests LOZENGES!! Well, seriously. Landon has a very tough time not chomping down his candy canes in 2 seconds flat, when he's fully awake, seated upright, and I'm watching him. It's doubtful he's going to suck on a lozenge. BUT ... let's say he does, he figures it out. Now, he's laying down, hacking and coughing, half-asleep. I'm WAY more worried about choking than about giving him 'kids' Buckleys. Like seriously.
So I'm not impressed with this whole system. I'm doing my due diligence to ensure that I'm NOT double-dosing my kid (which is what got the cough and cold meds on the hot seat in the first place), and I get treated like I'm some sort of abusive parent? Then get told to give him a f#*%&@#*$g choking hazard instead????? *shaking head* Gimme a bloody break is about all I can say about that!
[END RANT]
Onto good stuff: it's warmer here, so we got to play outside today. Landon loves pulling Arlan in the sled, so we went down to the park for awhile. I can't believe Landon sticks with it that long, it's gotta be tough to pull that sled through some of that snow! The snow is only up just past my ankles or maybe mid-shin in some places, but that's knee-deep for Landon! Arlan was "meh" about the sled, but quickly recognized the benefits over trying to walk (or more like waddle) all geared up for winter. lol
Other than that, Landon's loving preschool. He always says he doesn't want to go in the mornings, but then once I start asking him which toys he's going to play with, he's gung-ho! It's helping us out too as he's less reluctant to help clean up toys (which has become part of our pre-bedtime routine), and he's much more self-sufficient in dressing and undressing his winter clothes (he's been well practised in undressing his inside clothes for months and months!!). He's definitely gaining more independence, and we hear "I don't want your help" much more often than we were even 2 months ago. I really noticed it at the mall yesterday: we had lunch and when we got to the table Landon got his burger and fries out and all set up all by himself while I was corralling Arlan. I looked up and he's happily munching away ... my big boy!
Arlan is adorable. He's getting more words, but still isn't nearly as vocal as Landon was (if I remember correctly). But he'll tell you a cow says "Meeeeoooooo", and a puppy dog says "ooof", and a chicken says "baak baak". He also says "Bauble" for bottle, and "cackers" for crackers, and "jus" for juice. He's getting better at asking for what he wants -- came up to me yesterday and said "bauble" so I knew to give him one. Now, I'd like him to get off the bottle, but he's loving that thing! He loves his milk in a bottle (will take juice in a sippy cup), and it must be warm (none of that COLD stuff, thank you very much). Hopefully I won't be sending him to preschool with the bloody thing!
Anyway, I should get to bed. Just thought I'd better post. I have about 4,000 pics on the camera I'll upload soon, promise. Oh yeah, and I have Santa pic to scan too. Can't believe neither of them cried! Neither look particularly happy in the pic, but no one cried. And Landon was actually SO excited (but by the 3rd pic it was harder to see on his face) -- he gave Santa a long list of toys he wants, and got a candy cane, and coughed in Santa's face (Santa assured me he's taking his cold F/X, good thing!). Arlan was like "whatever". too cute :-)

All right already, I'll post!
We haven't been doing too much, or maybe it's just been so much that time is flying by and I'm not posting often enough (as I'm being reminded).
Hmmmm, let's see. Arlan has some new words. He says "Dank Youuuuuu" when he hands us something, or when we give him something. He always says "miiiiiine!" a LOT. And his fave new thing is to squeal VERY loudly when he wants something Landon won't let him have, then he cries like the world is ending and looks to mom and dad for sympathy. Pretty funny to witness actually. He hasn't done it too much because we aren't giving in to the ploy, but it is comical to watch.
Landon is turning into such a good big brother. He makes sure Arlan doesn't play with anything dangerous, well actually he makes sure Arlan doesn't play with anything at all usually!! But he does make sure to take away non-toy items and such, and puts them on the cupboard. He really does watch out for Arlan. That is heart-warming to see.
We went to Medicine Hat last weekend, stayed with Julie. It was a good visit, and the boys were well behaved (read: Landon didn't break anything this time). Both boys slept on the way down there, so the ride was HEAVENLY! Landon did pee while he slept though, so was pretty grumpy when he woke up to a wet carseat (and a pants change on 3rd Street downtown Medicine Hat!!). It also meant Landon was up until midnight, but he was very well behaved, so Julie and I visited and Landon went to bed with me. He got to play "camp-out", sleeping on a foam mattress on the floor in his sleeping bag. Now he wants to play 'camp-out' at home and sleep in a tent in the basement. We haven't ventured there yet, but maybe we'll have to let him try one night. One of us can always sleep in the bed down there in case he wakes scared or whatever.
Other than that, just been busy with candles, which is fun. Had a Xmas Faire last weekend. The boys came and spent some time at the child-minding area which was really cool. They had to sign in or whatever, and both of them stayed right there. Landon was loving the cars and playmat of course, and I think Arlan stayed because Landon was there. When I asked Landon at the end of the day what he did all day (because he did spend most of it at home with dad), he said "we played sharing!" and meant at the child-minding. So cute
Oh yeah, the boys did get their H1N1 shots, last Tuesday. Poor Landon - didn't know what was coming until they were swabbing his arm. We drove home from Medicine Hat and when we got to the city I asked him if we should go get vaccines. He was quite excited by that idea, so we went! No line-ups, which was fantastic. Both boys cried, but we had no reactions whatsoever, which is quite nice.
Well, Arlan's babbling away in bed, I'd best go get him. Sorry no pics ... will try to remember to take some soon. We need a new camera for Xmas Grandma *hint hint*
Until next time...

Another new tooth :-)
Arlan popped through another tooth today!! Top, to the right of the 2 front teeth. So that's 2 so far this month, after that grumpy weekend. I wonder if more are on their way??
Just been enjoying the summer weather - in mid-September! I guess Mother Nature's making up for the crappy July?? Went to Airdrie today, still lotsa canola that's nice and green ... yuck
Landon's so funny these days, he walks around singing songs. I don't even know where he gets half of them! But he sings sings sings. And when we get in the car, Landon always wants music (specifically, the "na-na-na" song, which is "So What" by Pink). So I turn on the CD, and Arlan starts head-bopping. Cracks me up every time.
I don't remember if I posted before with Arlan's words. His favourite thing is "Bye" with a hand wave. We were at the Farmer's Market today, and he was saying "Bye" and waving to everyone. Even at the grocery store yesterday. So cute ... I love it. I should try to get a video of that...
Off to bed...

Pics from Saskatoon
Here's some pics of Landon doing what he does. Climbing (and jumping and trying to conquer all inanimate objects), and asking "why" about something that .. really, I don't know WHY!! LOL I do like the pic of him examining the twig - that twig was a source of entertainment for him for about 30 minutes. Not all nice, quiet contemplation, mind you -- after this moment of peace, he ran around like it was a sword, whopping and hollering like a true 3-year-old boy!!
We took some 'family' pics too. I like the one with all of us. Yup - it was on Sunday, and the RIDERS did win :-)
Then me with the boys (John's artistic photo skills coming through here). That's about as good as it could get when I had a deathgrip on Landon to keep him on my knee, and Arlan was crying or whining 99% of the time!!
The picture of Arlan on John shows what Arlan spent most of Saturday doing...lying on us. He just wanted to be held. He laid across my chest as I was laying back on the couch; feet dangling off the couch, body across my chest, head resting on my arm. Then he'd lift his head, bite my arm (HARD I tell you), and put his head back down. A minute later, CHOMP!, and lay his head back down. You couldn't help but feel sorry for him, although it is so tiring when they're miserable. But John and I did just sit back and soak up some snuggle time ... thankful that Aunty Rosemary and Uncle Bob are wonderful hosts who didn't grumble about Arlan's fussing (to our faces anyway!), and that Landon was entertained solely by being somewhere else. Phew!
This week Arlan is still fussy, and Landon is more and more jealous of the attention Arlan's getting. So Landon's starting making Arlan noises, grunting and pointing instead of using words, and whining. So fun. Love my life, really!
But, Arlan is saying more words. Still loves "burhhhhs!" (birds). Now also says "cah" (car), "truh" (truck), "buh" (bus), "bah" (bottle), "reh" (red), "spoo" (spoon). Oh yeah, and he has been fussing away in his high chair too, which I've been putting down to a sore mouth. But nope - he actually wanted utensils! Silly mom...so I gave him a spoon and fork tonight, and he happily ate almost everything up, using the spoon and fork!! WHERE'S MY BABY!!! *sigh* he's growing up WAY too fast....
until next time...

Arlan words...and a tooth
Arlan is starting to say a few words now. Grandpa taught him "birdie" at the farm as they watched the birds out the window. Arlan LOVES birds (any animals really) ... and points at them telling me "birhh!" all day long.
He also calls for da-da-da-da-da in the mornings, to come give him a 'soos'. And the other day John was getting Arlan changed and I could hear: John "Arlan, don't!" Arlan "i bite!" LOL So cute.
Arlan's also getting close to a word for "juice", and "up" (not bup like Landon still says!! lol). We'll see what other words come out in the upcoming days and weeks...
Also Arlan got his 6th tooth - came through Thursday morning. He'd been working at it all the time at the farm, so I'm glad it made it out finally.

it WAS a nice weekend
We had such nice weather the past two days - the boys and I spent tons of time outside. But today - snowy ground again!! Hopefully it won't last long ...
Arlan still has his cold a bit - quite a cough that poor little bugger. We can hear him coughing all night long. But he manages to sleep through it. And he's in better spirits these past two days, so hopefully he's feeling better. He slept so much all week - some days only being up for 1.5 or 2 hours at a time. But yesterday and today he's managed to get back to his usual routine. Of course, we'll throw that right out the window next weekend when we travel to Toronto :-/
We think Landon had a night terror last night. Looking back (and having read a bit about them last night), I'm thinking he may have had a couple others over the past weeks. But last night he woke up crying, and was sweating and shaking. I was able to hold him, but that didn't seem to register with him at all. He wouldn't respond to me or anything. Then all of a sudden it stopped (the shaking, the crying) and he just lay his head on my chest and was sound asleep again. He peed his diaper right full, so I changed him and he woke slightly at that, grumped at me, but went right back to sleep. The whole episode (crying, shaking) lasted maybe 2 minutes (thankfully - I read that some last as long as 30 minutes!).
I think he may have had at least one more recently too. At Aunty Yvonne's, he spent about 15 - 20 minutes in bed kicking me and pushing his head against the wall at the top of the bed. He wouldn't stop moving around. I thought he was just trying to get comfortable, and since he was kicking ME I was trying to rouse him to calm him down. It didn't work, he wouldn't respond to me, but just kept on rustling around. Then it stopped and he was back to sleep. I read last night that a night terror doesn't always involve screaming or crying, but can just be restlessness (like that) with the inability to be aroused.
Night terrors are typically caused by kids being overtired, especially if they have an abnormal sleep schedule. Well, Landon's been dropping his nap sporadically over the previous weeks, so his schedule is sporadic -- some days in bed sleeping at 8:30, others not asleep until 11 (when he's napped). Plus yesterday he was outside most of the day, didn't nap, so was likely very tired (or even overtired) when he went to bed. So we'll be watching him, and I sure hope this doesn't continue long. Of course, he has no recollection, and they say night terrors are not harmful to kids. But it's hard on a mom to have her 'baby' crying so hard and be inconsolable!!!
Other than that ... I'm off to buy curtains for the boys' rooms today (hopefully). We got new blinds for Arlan, but they don't block enough light so of course he's wide awake in the morning (at say, 6!). Maybe some curtains will help him sleep a bit longer? Maybe. He was pretty cute this morning, even if it was so early. He just played in his crib, babbling away "da-da! da-da!" Definitely says "da-da", but mama isn't quite so clear yet :-/ That's ok, Landon's got it down pat! urgh...
That's that. I will be negotiating snowy streets (crazy hey!), but I'm sure it'll be fine. Until next time...

broccoli crashing and dirty movies!
Landon always makes me laugh it seems. The other night we were watching ... wait for it ... THOMAS of course. Thomas did not puff with care around the dangerous bend and crashed into the bushes. Landon looked at me very seriously and explained "Thomas crashed into the broccoli mom!!" Of course ...
Then we were at the library on Saturday afternoon, and I let Landon pick out two Thomas videos to bring home. While we were checking through the videos, I would open them up to see just how scratched they actually were (I hate library videos, but it does break up the monotony of the videos we have here), telling Landon I was looking for scratches. We find a couple that didn't seem to be too bad. Landon then goes ripping through the library yelling excitedly "Let's go home and watch dirty videos mom!!" Of course ...
Another cute story from a few weeks back. Landon was running around ... wait for it ... naked, I was upstairs. Then I heard him "I peed a bunny mom!" Wondering just what he was trying to explain, I went downstairs getting ready to mop up a pee accident. There was an accident all right, and Landon's exclamation was a perfect description. There in the carpet was a wet spot shaped exactly like a bunny head, big pointy ears and all .....
So yes, Landon makes me laugh, and blush occassionally too. But it's all fun! LOL
Potty training - a bit slower these days...Landon peed his pants yesterday and today, and then wants diapers on because he feels bad. He is 100% when he runs around naked without gotches or anything. But put gotches, and esp gotches and pants on, and he forgets he's got to use the pot. *sigh* Ah well, we just mop up the messes and keep trying ...
Arlan is perfectly adorable, of course! He was laughing laughing laughing today as I tickled him. Sooooo cute. He's such a happy little man, I love it. He's been going to bed nicely at 7 pm, wakes up 3 times to eat, and wakes in the morning at 8 am for the day. Gotta' love that schedule. He has only short naps throughout the day, but with that nighttime schedule I think I can survive it!
Until next time...

Potty ALL BY HIMSELF!!
Yup- that's right. For the first time ever, Landon used the potty all by himself. I wasn't even in the room.
I was upstairs feeding Arlan, thinking 'oh man, Landon's downstairs without a diaper, I'm gonna' have a mess when I get down there'. I get Arlan back to sleep and head downstairs. I asked Landon "did you pee?" He says "no, yes!" (those who recently spent time with Landon can likely hear exactly how he said this, his favourite two word combination!). So I checked out the couch - nothing. Then I look in the potty and [insert angels singing here].
YAYAYAYAY!
So we gave Landon a Thomas tattoo and phoned Grandma and ran downstairs to tell dad and we are so very proud of him.
Now let's just hope tomorrow brings more of the same....heh heh
Landon has also learned the wonderful word "WHY". So far he's only used it with John, but I'm sure it's coming for me. With me he's more inclined to say "how come?" because that's what I say. He also asks "What's going on here?", and says "oh my bloody gawd!" alot. And "Drive me NUTS!!!" Heh heh Don't know where he gets that from......
Arlan's a cutie-patootie. Bedtimes are still a bit iffy...last night he cried for an HOUR before finally falling asleep. tonight he went to sleep but woke up 45 minutes later for the second half of his bedtime snack. *sigh* I don't mind those nights, I can feed him again if needed, as long as he goes right back to sleep - which he did tonight. Naps can still be touchy for him, but are getting a bit better.
I took Arlan to the doctor today - the sclera (whites) of his eyes are still dark (were darker with the jaundice) so I wanted to know if I should be worried / following up. Doc said 'nope, they're fine'.
He also said we should be staring Arlan on solids! GACK! MY BABY!!! He can't eat solids yet!! But he was very interested in my glass of water today, and when I put it to his mouth he eagerly mouthed at it and even got a splash of water. So maybe soon ... but not quite yet!
Anyways, that's the news here. Good potty news, improving bedtime news, and *sob* my baby's getting big :-) Until next time...

Starting to roll.....
Well, no more leaving Arlan anywhere elevated, that's for sure. He's starting to roll around that little stinker. This bum shot shows how far over he gets. It's from tonight. By the time he was done rolling he had turned himself 180'!! And was quite pleased with himself too :-)
He's such a little cutie-pie, I just love it. Can't believe how FAST time is going with him though!! I weighed him today and he's 14 pounds, 14 ounces! WOW! I just stopped in at my community health clinic (where I take the boys for shots, etc) and I can weigh him anytime, which is really nice.
We had a pretty busy day. Firstly I asked Landon when he got up if we should get dressed and go to the zoo. His response: "ooooooh, there's gonna be lotsa hippos and rhinocinuses!!!!!" (Him trying to say rhinocerus is priceless...I'm going to try to get it on video because it cracks me up). So we got dressed, did some running around (picked up a small aquarium/heater/rocks/plant via freecycle) and went to the zoo. Landon was so pumped to see the hippos and the giraffes (pronounced girafeeeeees), plus the zebras and lions. I bought an annual pass because I think we'll be going more often now that Arlan doesn't eat 62 times a day. I know it's getting to be winter, but the pass is good until next fall so we'll go all next summer :-)
Landon loved the zoo. The first thing he asked for was a treat ... which is an Itzakadoozie (an expensive popsicle!) ... he remembered from when Allison and I took him to the zoo in August. Then we looked at animals, he climbed rocks and ran around (and around and around). We had lunch, he fed fries to the seagulls and chased the peacocks. Then I sat on the elephant bleachers while he climbed up and down (and up and down and up and down) ... I watched the baby elephant playing in the water and nursed Arlan. Then we left. It was a wonderful zoo trip - so relaxed and makes me want to go again tomorrow!! LOL
Tonight Landon and I went to the pet store to pick up a few more things for the fish now named Thomas (of course!). We just needed a net, and some water conditioner, and I bought a fake plant and let Landon pick out a little ornament thing -- it's plankton from SpongeBob Square Pants. Then we washed out the aquarium and got it all decorated up and put Thomas the fish in there. Looks pretty good - it's the first aquarium I've ever had (just some goldfish in fishbowls as a kids) so I was excited too :-D Now Thomas has a nice new home with more room to swim, some plants to rest on, and some ornaments to hide behind, sitting on Landon's dresser.
Arlan hasn't cried the last couple of nights when going to bed, which has been a treat. Tonight he woke at 10:30 hungry though - which is unusual. I think the earliest he's woken before was maybe 11:30 or so? But he did go to sleep at 7:30, so *shrug* At least he just eats and goes right back to sleep --> PHEW! Maybe he'll sleep through to 5 am or something ... heh heh I know, I'm dreaming, but I can dream right?
Anyways, I should get to bed myself ... having these nursing naps with Arlan in the afternoon has me falling asleep later at night - then getting up to feed Arlan overnight I'm tired the next day so I look forward to and treasure that nursing nap again :-) Vicious circle, but I think I'll just take advantage of those naps while I can!! Until next time...

Landon Logic?
I must admit, 2 year-olds can be logical when it comes to this English language. Landon looked at the picture of him mopping and said "Landon brooming" I giggled and said "Yes, Landon is mopping." But I got to thinking .... why is it mopping when we use a mop, but sweeping when we use a broom? I think Landon's got a point -- if you are using a broom, you should be brooming, not sweeping :-/ Or maybe brooms should be called sweeps if you prefer it that way. Either way....*shrug*

Landon is Amazing!
Of course Landon is amazing, aren't all parents' children amazing?? Maybe I should say Landon is amazing for me to watch as he learns so many things.
These days, Landon has so much fun reciting the letters wherever he can find them. He can sing his ABC's, has been able to for awhile now. But now he recognizes the letters wherever he sees them and takes great pleasure in reciting them all. He gets G and H mixed up, but those are the only ones usually. He is starting to learn the 'small' letters too (he recognizes the capitals only at this point). I think the fact that he knows his alphabets and recognizes letters is pretty amazing, though :-D
Landon also jumps on one foot. He will show off this new feat to anyone who will watch. Of course, this shouldn't be that surprising, given how much he loves to jump!! LOL Makes me giggle to watch him do this though :-)
Landon also has a very annoying voice that he enjoys using. For anyone who's ever watched MADtv, he sounds like Stuart!! So in order to save our sanity, we remind him that he needs to kick his foot out (like Stuart does) whenever he uses this voice. It usually gets him giggling and he stops whining -- meanwhile John and I are laughing at his antics -- so it's a win-win situation.
Other big things Landon is learning to do -- he can wash his hands by himself (mostly he loves the soap part of washing his hands ... ). He helps mommy by fetching baby blankets and towels and soothers and all sorts of things. He reminds mommy whenever Arlan's crying to "plug in the soosie, the crying stops!". He cracks me up when you ask him if he wants something by replying "Oh! Sure!". Yesterday we saw a big semi truck, he's babbling in the backseat and says "Oh look! A big semi truck! That's NEAT!". Landon also always wants to direct our driving ... "not that way, this way!" I keep reminding him it'll be 14 years before he gets to drive, but he doesn't care, he keeps telling us where to go (literally!).
And we have to be oh so careful of what we say these days. Landon walks around saying "oh my bloody gawd" a lot. He also says "Drive my NUTS!" and "no whining/hitting/throwing" right after he's whined/hit/threw something.
So that's a little bit of info about Landon. He will be 2 1/2 years on Sunday ... hard to believe. *shaking head* I can still remember the ride home from the hospital with him...thinking "now that was fun, but do we have to take it home??" LOL Ah well...
Here's your happy post Nikki ;-)

Mama Broke It!
Yes I did ... I knocked over a shelf in the basement, made a big mess, and scared the bejesus out of Landon. Not the knocking over part, but the vacuuming up afterwards part :-/ To calm him down, John just kept repeating "mommy broke it, but it's okay" so that Landon knew we weren't mad at him. So all night long it's been "Mama broke it!!". He won't let me live it down, the little stinker bug!
I heard today, and just confirmed online, that Thomas the Tank Engine will be at Heritage Park in May. Oh my good bloody gawd ... I had better get tickets! LOL Actually, I don't know if Landon will be excited or somewhat scared, but I will take him to see Thomas in any case; I'm looking forward to it.
Any bets on how many trips out of the crib tonight? I'm off to put Landon to bed now...........

antibiotics for both of us :-(
I had to break down and go to the doctor yesterday ... I have a sinus infection that is making my face so sore I can barely open my mouth wide enough to eat! So I took Landon as well ... even though he's improved considerably the past few days. We are barely needing to wipe his nose throughout the day, and he's been sleeping well and everything.
So I got antibiotics, which I was fully expecting (and hoping for). What surprised me is that Landon has a 'raging ear infection', so he got antibiotics too. I didn't think he had an ear infection - he sure hasn't been fussy or anything. He hasn't been pulling on his ears too much, he has been sleeping through the night... But at least it's getting treated now - maybe it would've gotten worse yet, who knows? So we're doing the drug thing and hoping to feel better for the weekend, finally!!
Landon is singing away these days ... all day long. He sings Wheels on the Bus which comes out "wheels...bus...round and ROUND!", and he does the alphabet from beginning to end, you just can't understand the words he's saying, but he has the tune and some of the letters. I love when he says LMNOP, he just mumbles all the way through. He even does the "Now ABC, next time, play...me" Too sweet.
Landon hasn't been crawling out of his crib too much. A couple of nights ago he was out 3 times, then 2 nights ago he didn't crawl out at all, and last night only once. So that's a good thing. We just grab him and put him back in the crib - we don't say anything or linger, just stick him in there and walk out again. He even slept without a soother the other night, all night. Which is good, as I'd like to take it away from him. He ends up chewing on the soother which puts holes in it and we have to toss it. So soothers aren't lasting him very long these days and I really don't see much point in buying new soothers every few weeks just to keep this habit going. Hopefully when this ear infection clears up we'll be able to drop it altogether!
That's the news for today. I'm just hoping that we both finally get good and healthy and stay that way for a few months!! LOL Well, at least until after Landon's birthday and our trip to Banff!

Monday News...
There isn't much Monday news today. We had a nice weekend, didn't do too much (which is likely why it was nice LOL).
Nothing more has been happening on the potty training front. Landon has been wanting to keep his clothes on, and I'm fine with that.
Landon is definitely closer to 2 though - he's starting to have tantrums. This morning he laid on the floor crying and wailing - then looking to see if I was looking - and then crying and wailing some more; for about 15 minutes! I couldn't believe he kept it up, since I was doing what the 'experts' say to do and ignoring him. Finally I sat on the couch -he came over and wanted up and wanted to snuggle. He still cried a bit though, even on my knee. Stinker! Then we went for a car ride (to the post office) and all was good.
The sleep thing - we have had Landon getting up at 9 am for the past couple of weeks, hoping that he'll go to sleep better for us at night. It really wasn't helping - he would lay in bed from 10 until 11:30 or so before going to sleep at night. During this time he would cause all sorts of trouble - like taking his sleeper off, throwing everything out of his crib and then crying to get it back, and he even showed me he could reach the pictures on the wall (when one came crashing down off the wall) so I had to rehang them higher. I think he reached a peak of being overtired last week when he woke up at 8:30 one morning after only 9 hours of sleep! aiaiai He wasn't very happy that morning, let me tell you!
But he finally went to sleep that night when we put him to bed, and he did the same again last night. Plus he's finally starting to wake up easily at 9 am, usually he's already starting to shuffle around in there by 9. So maybe, after TWO WEEKS, he's starting to get used to it? Let's hope. I'd like it if he could start falling asleep better at night - I feel bad when we put him to bed and he's awake for so long in there. He doesn't seem to mind - he plays quite happily, singing and babbling. But that situation doesn't bode well for when we move him to a 'big boy bed' -- a move which will be coming up soon I'm sure. Although he hasn't crawled out of his crib for almost 2 months (knock on wood!).
Singing - yes, Landon does love to sing. He is always singing his "mommy, I seepy" song that I made up for him when I put him down for his naps. And he's singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" for us too ... he has the tune down, and he says some or most of the words of each line (tinkle tinkle star, how wonder you are, up world high, diamond sky ...) It's very cute, and I love it.
Landon has also been playing non-stop with either his matchbox trucks (memuck guck = cement truck; loadah - loader; beeguck guck = big dump truck; cahne guck = crane truck) or his Thomas trains and tracks. We watch Thomas dvd's aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllll day long! He particularly likes Gordon for some reason, and Percy. and Cranky. Too funny - it amazes me how he remembers all of their names!
Well, that's Monday afternoon for ya. I go to the doc tomorrow for my monthly prenatal check-up. Landon's going with me to this one ... could make it interesting!! I've definitely packed on some pounds this month, so we'll see what the doc says. I'm not worried though - I'm following the same weight gain path as I did with Landon, and I lost that weight so I'm sure I'll be fine ... esp with two monkeys to chase after! aiaiaiaiai

counting!
an exciting new advancement for Landon - he's been counting to TEN for us these days! We start him off by saying 'one', then he counts (we repeat each number back to him) right up to 10. Now - not everyone would recognize what he says as the actual number, but we sure do. And he giggles and laughs and is very proud of himself when he reaches 10!! lol
He talks almost non-stop actually. Telling us about trucks and planes and helicopters. Today in the car was passed construction, and he pointed out the back-hoe and the bull-dozers to me! Too funny.
We're also thinking more and more about potty-training. He is starting to tell us when he's gone pee and poop, which is a good sign. So we'll be buying potty's soon.
And I'm going to buy a booster seat for him so that he can sit up at the table with us to eat. He isn't liking his highchair nearly as much (besides being able to now crawl right up into the highchair all by himself), and is eating some of his meals just sitting in a normal chair. So I think a booster seat is called for - and we can then put the high chair away for a year or so!! Clean up the kitchen a bit ... heh heh
Pics to come soon ... promise....

Relaxing week before Xmas...
Well our week has been pretty relaxing. Landon and I have been hanging out at home, playing at the park in the afternoons, and just generally vegging out as we make final preps for the holidays. Landon is still enthralled with the tree - but he hasn't managed to knock it over yet. He crawls underneath several times a day though. And the decorations get moved around quite a bit too. But it's all good. He's not so fanatical with having to have the lights on all day, which is nice.
Landon has taught me something that I must be doing a lot these days -- wagging my finger while saying "don't" Heh heh. The other night he was throwing some toys, and I said "don't throw toys". He was sitting on the couch beside me, and before I even finished my admonishment, he was looking at me wagging his finger saying"Don't!" I had to look away I was laughing so hard - and John wasn't much help sitting on the other couch with his face buried in the arm laughing his ass off too! So I've been trying to use more positive statements to avoid bad behaviours ... like "Play nicely with the Christmas tree Landon" versus "Don't swing the broom at the tree Landon!!" or "Toy trucks are for playing on the floor" versus "I said NO! Don't smash your trucks on the living room window!" *sigh*
Landon's starting to figure out colours a little bit too. We've been pointing them out to him on various toys and things (like lego pieces), and every now and again he gets them right (whether it's by chance or skill we're not sure yet). He's confused over how orange can be orange and a thing that you eat ... which I can understand. But it's so cute to hear him say purple...I just love it.
Anyways, it's time for eggs, and Landon's crawling all over me saying "egg" so I'd better go and give him some lunch. Then we're off to check the mail to see if our photo Xmas cards have arrived yet .... ahem. Everyone will be getting their Christmas cards sometime in the New Year I guess ... Ooops!! Until next time...TK

The Tree is the BEST plaything EVER

First thing when we go downstairs in the morning, the tree has to be plugged in, the lights on the mantel, and now I have two lit snowmen up that have to be plugged in too. And they are supposed to stay on all day, and it's become part of our nighttime routine to unplug everything when we're going to bed. *shaking head* He just loves the 'pretty light' (and yes, that's what he says, all day long!).
We are thinking he's on a growth spurt again, as he's been eating like a horse for the past few days (and pooping like one too, ahem). Where before we sometimes wondered if he was getting enough, now we are wondering what to feed him next!! LOL But that's a good thing. We have learned that he REALLY likes vanilla pudding - he'll eat 1/2 a cup (after eating a good meal) and ask for "more". He has also polished off a little watermelon too - another newfound fave. heh heh
The other night we counted up the words that Landon knows, and we are up to 100 or more. He says some phrases too, like "where go?" (as in where did the cat go, or where did Landon go), and following that "there 'tis". He has said "all done" for quite awhile now, mostly when he's done eating, but sometimes when he's done playing with something. He is starting to tell us when he's going to "poo poo" so we are thinking more about potty training. But it's pretty amazing to watch him picking up so many new words so often. I can really tell when he's concentrating on learning what I'm saying - he gets a very serious look on his face. I was amazed when we pulled out a small book that we haven't seen for weeks, maybe a couple of months, that has pictures of objects and the sounds they make. Landon knew and could make the sounds for over half of the objects, and now today he does them all (for example, a kettle say wheeeeeee, vacuum cleaner whooooosh, toaster pop!, fire crackle crackle, frying pan sssssizzzzzle, and telephone rrrring rrrring).
Hiding is lots of fun for Landon too. He'll be walking around with his hands over his eyes, then pull them away yelling 'peek-a-boo!'. This evening I came upstairs and wondered where he went as he climbed the stairs just ahead of me. Well, he had crawled up on our bed and put a pillow over himself! So I walked around saying "where did Landon go? Where is Landon?" I would've found him eventually, even if I couldn't have seen his feet, because he was snorting he was giggling to hard!! Too funny - I am loving this playful little creature!!
Anyways, that's the long blog for the everning....will post again in the next few days....until next time...TK

Counting and climbing and colouring
Landon sure has been 'exploring his world' ... aiaiaiai. Keeps us very busy. He loves to drag the chairs around the kitchen, so that he can reach EVERYTHING on the cupboards, including clean and dirty dishes, knives, garlic, hot frying pans ..... So he's had a couple of owies (see hot frying pan), and some near misses (see knives), and made some VERY big messes in the process. And we've cleaned off our cupboards (sort of).
One of Landon's very favourite things to do is colour. Every day he is going for his pad of paper and his crayons. He says 'paper' but not crayon yet. I don't think he gets that paper is paper though, I think to him paper is colouring, because he says paper while he's colouring the chairs, or the table, or just running around with the crayon in his hand and a mischievous gleam in his eye. But at least it's a relatively quiet activity, and crayons wash off of everything (including walls, couches, and his clothes, where he loves to put the crayons into his pockets and take them out again, repeatedly).
And somewhere along the line he's picked up counting. Don't know where it came from. John had him at the park last weekend and one of the girls there was counting to 10 then rolling down the hill. Landon was apparently mesmerized, so maybe that's where it came from *shrug* Anyways, now I'll say 'one', he'll say 'two', I'll say 'two', he says 'three', I say 'three' and he laughs and laughs and laughs. Pretty cute, if I do say so myself. Of course John is now working on four and five, I'm just impressed with one, two, three!!
So that's been the news here. It's been awhile since I posted, some comp troubles kept me mostly off-line for a couple of days. But John muttered and swore at the comp so much that it has quit acting up (for now). So maybe some pics coming up shortly as well. Until next time...TK

Hoser - GAH
Remember the whole coo-oo-coo-oo-coo-oo-coo-coo thing? heh heh Well, Landon still loves it, and will try to repeat it whenever we bring it up. Tonight though, he put a twist on it. He was saying coo-oo-coo-GAH! Then he'd laugh laugh laugh and fall down laughing so hard. So I started doing that too, well ... let's just say that that is the funniest darned thing that I've ever done. Made me laugh a lot too watching him.
I think he was giggly because he was tired. After dinner tonight he ran ran ran ... right around the block (for those familiar, out our backdoor, to the main drag, down to Mac's and back again). He did one face plant though - he even left a wet mark on the cement where his poor mouth hit - and scraped up his nose :-( But luckily there were some birds flying over head and they were more interesting to watch and point at and shout about than crying was. PhEW!!
Somewhere along the past few months, Landon has been learning so much I can't believe it. He points out his eyes, nose, mouth, ears, belly, toes, feet. He's starting to remember where his cheeks are, but is still confused about his bum. He can point to my eyes too - just about gouging them out, but he knows where they are!! LOL
He also knows many of his vehicles - firetruck, dumptruck, cop car, taxi, helicopter, boat. The ambulance tricks him up sometimes, but usually he gets his vehicles right. He loves to point out the vehicles as we're walking or driving somewhere, 'GUCK!' 'GAR' 'AN' (truck, car, van). And he points to motorbikes and bicycles, but doesn't know what to call them so they get called gucks too :-)
Anyways, that's the news from here. John and I are going out for our anniversary on Thursday - a HUGE thank you to Trish for babysitting for us!! I am looking forward to it!!!!! until next time...TK
